FROM THE PRINCIPAL AND ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS
REMINDER ASSEMBLY THIS FRIDAY
From the Principal
Jesus explained to His disciples that He was the Bread from Heaven that would give life to the world. They would have been confused by this wondering how their friend and teacher could possibly be bread. In the Old Testament God provided Moses and the Israelites escaping from Egypt manna from heaven so they could survive in the desert. Jesus was telling the disciples that He would replace that with Himself and become the Eucharist that continues to nourish us today. Of course that didn’t make sense to the apostles but with the Last Supper and Jesus’ death and resurrection, events we know about, we have the advantage of being able to understand what Jesus meant.
NEWS
The approach of Book Week is an exciting time with many students, and staff, talking about their costumes. It will be a lovely day. Please don’t feel any pressure to spend a great deal of money on costumes. The point is to celebrate and enjoy reading and some of the best costumes are very creative but low cost. I look forward to seeing you when you arrive for classroom visits before I have to leave for a Principal Meeting. I’m sorry I’ll miss the parade!
Colour Run
As I am sure you have heard, the colour run is generating a lot of excitement. There are around 200 of our students who have already made the total around $20,000! Many have yet to make a donation but there’s still time! If you are having any trouble registering, please don’t hesitate to ask for help.
God Bless,
Michelle Rolfe
Principal

At 11:30am, parents, grandparents and carers are warmly invited to join the students in their classrooms. During this time you will be able to work with your child in completing a fun Book Week activity. From 12:30pm to 1:10pm, families can enjoy a picnic lunch with their children on our top playgrounds. Please bring a picnic lunch and a blanket or camp chair to sit on.
The day will conclude with our Annual Book Character Parade. This will be held at 1:20pm. Students are encouraged to come to school dressed as a character from a book. Younger siblings are also invited to dress up as a book character and there will be an opportunity for toddlers and preschoolers to participate in the parade after grades K - 6. The parade is expected to conclude at 2:20pm, in time for usual dismissal procedures.
It is extremely exciting to be able to gather and promote a love of literature as we celebrate reading at Mary Immaculate. We can't wait to see all of the students’ fantastic costumes and share this with our MIEV families.
Kind Regards,
Staff of Mary Immaculate
What an amazing effort MIEV! We have raised just over $24,000.
We are so impressed with the 182 children who are actively fundraising.
But we can see that over 320 children have created profiles. This means, 144 people haven’t started fundraising and another 230 children are yet to create a profile and start fundraising. Did you know that with a fundraising amount of $10.00 or more, you can claim a prize?
Now, is your time to start Mary Immaculate.
Congratulations to 5 Green and 1 Blue, who will receive Ice Blocks for being the classes with the most profiles created within the first week.

WINTER APPEAL SLEEPOUT AND MUFTI DAY
On Friday 9 August Mary Immaculate, Eagle Vale held its first ever Mini Vinnies Mini Winter Sleepout. Close to 40 students from Year 5 and 6, Mrs Rolfe, Mr David Gearin (from the Catholic Education Wollongong CLEM Team - Social Justice) and 6 teachers took part in this evening event.
All were able to experience for a few hours the coldness and discomfort that many of our community members do on a nightly basis as well as having to make their own shelter to survive the evening and share a small meal with their ‘street neighbours.’
It was great to see students understand, sympathise and begin to empathise with those on the streets and explore ways to put their faith into action and be church in the world. At the conclusion of the evening students, staff and parent shared a beautiful moment of reflection at the school’s yarning circle.
Our Winter Appeal this year - the sleepout and mufti day - has raised just over $2,000.00 for this wonderful initiative. Thank you to all who gave generously in contributions at the mufti day or through sponsorship of students completing the sleepout.
