It was truly a day that embodied the concept of synergy.
The definition of synergy is when two or more things work together to create something that is bigger or greater than the sum of their individual efforts. This was definitely visible on Monday.
A day like Monday would not be possible without the combined efforts of many individuals. Gratitude is extended to our wonderful staff, our enthusiastic parent volunteers, the members of the P & F and the energy of the students from Mt Carmel College. Our most important people, our students, had the opportunity to participate in a range of competitive and non-competitive athletic and novelty events using the fantastic resources and equipment available at Campbelltown Stadium. Thank you to all staff, with special mention to the members of the Athletics Carnival Committee under the leadership of Andrew Astill for the meticulous planning and organisation of the day. We are extremely grateful to all our staff who assisted with the packing, loading and set up of equipment at the venue. As always our staff epitomise the meaning of teamwork. We very much welcome any feedback or suggestions regarding the carnival, as this will greatly assist us in our future planning.
Wishing all members of our community many opportunities in the week ahead to bring Christ to life for others during this Lenten season.

As communicated in the newsletter last week we are still desperately seeking volunteers for the following positions on the P & F Executive Committee. The positions of Secretary, Treasurer, Hospitality Co-ordinator and Fundraising Coordinator were not filled at the recent Annual General Meeting and we are currently seeking support from the wider parent community from anyone who may be interested in assuming any of these roles. Copies of the Role Descriptions were included with last week’s newsletter and are included again this week. It is important that parents who are considering volunteering for these roles are able to commit to assisting during the school day. Without parent volunteers the viability and continuity of this valuable parent group will be compromised during 2022.
We are grateful to Lorraine Brown - Parent / President and Kerry Watson - Grandparent / Vice President, who have accepted nominations and leadership roles in this vital group within our school community for 2022.
OFFICIAL DATE FOR CHANGE-OVER TO WINTER UNIFORMS IS MONDAY MAY 9.
Due to the unpredictable weather, there will be a grace period during Week 1 and 2 of Term 2 where students are able to choose the most appropriate uniform for the weather conditions.
All students will officially commence wearing their full Winter Uniform on
Monday May 9 - Week 3.

LEADERSHIP MASS
Last week was a special week! It was the first time we were able to attend Mass in nearly two years. A big congratulations to our Year 6 students who received their leadership badges during the Mass and accepted the role of School Leaders for 2022
Mrs Kirsty Simpson
Religious Education Co-Ordinator

Congratulations to 2 Gold earning their second Gold Star, an amazing effort, well done! Let’s see if we can all try to remember our Library bags for our next lesson. We have so many wonderful books available for borrowing.
Tomorrow, Thursday, is Kinder Library day.
Next week:
Tuesday - Year 6
Wednesday – Year 5
Thursday - Year 3
Friday - Year 2
Because each class only borrows fortnightly, any student who finishes their books and would like to borrow in between lessons is welcome to bring their Library bag and come to the Library at Lunch 2 on Wednesday. They can return the books they have finished and choose some new ones!
Scholastic Book Club
Thank you to all those people supporting this program, orders will close this Friday 18 March. Please make sure you choose the correct class for your child – every class is registered. Thank you again for your generous support.
Premiers' Reading Challenge
User names and passwords for login will be sent out next week if you requested it for your child in Kinder or Year 1. Remember to look online at oliver.dow.catholic.edu.au/miev for the PRC books in our Library, or in the Eagle Vale or Campbelltown Libraries for books with the PRC stickers. If the students are reading books from home, you can check to see if those titles are on the list. If the book is not on the list, each participant is allowed five free-choice books. Check the website https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/booklist/home.html
Daily Reading
It is important for your children to see you reading too – they always love to imitate their parents. Even ten minutes a day is invaluable.
"I have a passion for teaching kids to become readers. To become comfortable with a book, not daunted. Books shouldn't be daunting, they should be funny, exciting and wonderful; and learning to be a reader gives a terrific advantage."
Roald Dahl
Happy reading!

HARMONY DAY / MUFTI DAY - MONDAY 21 MARCH
On Monday 21 March there will be a MUFTI DAY and students are encouraged to wear the colours of their families cultural heritage flag or if you would like, traditional clothing that is a representation of your family's culture. During Harmony Week (Week 9) students will participate in a range of activities that promote the many diverse cultural backgrounds we have here at Mary Immaculate.
A gold coin donation will help support the Project Compassion Appeal that our Mini Vinnies Team is working hard on. This will further support the many cultures around the world.
At Mary Immaculate Eagle Vale, we are very fortunate to have a wide array of languages spoken by some of our families. One of the easiest things that families can do to foster home language learning is to read stories in whatever language parents feel most comfortable. Sharing stories with children is more than reading print - it can be talking about pictures that can be seen, symbols within the text or even having children read to adults or other children within the family. As part of our Harmony Week celebrations at Mary Immaculate we are encouraging students to bring in stories from home, especially those written in different home languages to share with students in their class.
A great website to access books in multiple home languages is https://www.uniteforliteracy.com/. This resource has many different books that can be accessed in multiple languages other than English.
We look forward to this purposeful opportunity where students are able to share the incredible gift of being exposed to and coming from different cultural backgrounds.

MINI VINNIES - PROJECT COMPASSION UPDATE
Project Compassion was launched at our school on Ash Wednesday. We would like to thank everyone for their generosity so far and we can’t wait to see how much we can raise for those in need.
As a school we have raised $175.70
This means so far we have reached the following targets:
- $6 - providing soap and a toppy tap to protect communities against COVID19 in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
- $25 - providing a duck for a Rural Training School in the Solomon Islands.
- $85 - helping a community to form a farmer support group in India.
- $148 can provide a household with materials to build their own toilet in Mozambique.
We are only $75.30 away from:
- $251 - can provide a boar piglet for breeding in the Solomon Islands.
This week we are going to focus on a class competition. On Friday at Lunch One the Mini Vinnies Team will be collecting the Project Compassion boxes from each class and making a line with the coins. The class with the longest line will win a small prize. So let’s start collecting those coins.
