Dear Parents and Carers,

Easter is the greatest feast in the Christian calendar. Just as we gather around as families and retell important family stories we had the chance as a school family united by faith to gather and retell the most important story in our church calendar in the last week of Term 1. Thank you to our Year 4 students who were our storytellers and helped us to remember Jesus’ journey through the events of Holy Week. Thank you to our staff, who were led by our Year 4 teachers and helped the students to bring this story to life in a very moving and prayerful way. As a family of faith Easter holds a central place in our community and we continue to look towards the future filled with faith and hope in Jesus’ promise of new life. It is important to remember that Easter is a season, not just a Sunday so we must make the most of this season of joy and celebration. Perhaps we don’t think of ‘enjoying ourselves’ as a particularly spiritual thing. And yet, if the world is to recognise us as a people of the Good News, it is vital that they see and hear physical evidence of this fact! Our joy should be felt in the glow of our smiles, in the warmth of our welcome and hospitality, in our outreaching hands and hearts. We should reflect the message that we are people of good news!
As a nation, we will remember the ANZAC landings at Gallipoli this coming weekend. Although this campaign failed to achieve its ultimate objectives, it became a symbol of courage, sacrifice, honour and mateship for Australia. May we be thankful for our freedom in a democratic country. On Monday our school community will gather to remember the sacrifices and courage of past and present service men and women who have served and died in many and varied conflicts. Parents are welcome to join with our students for an ANZAC celebration at 2:00 pm. This will conclude our day together and help us to reflect on the importance of this national event.
“They shall not grow old as we who are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning. We will remember them.
Lest we forget”.
A reminder to Year 3 and 5 parents that students in Years 3 and 5 will participate in the annual NAPLAN tests in reading, writing, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy during May 11 – 21. SCHOOL PHOTO DAY THURSDAY 6 MAY
This is a reminder that school photos will take place on Thursday May 6.
It is important that all students wear their full Summer Uniform on this day. Hair should be neatly presented and reflect normal school requirements.
Due to the unpredictability of the weather students may wear either full Summer or full Winter uniform for the next 3 weeks ~ not a mixture of both.
The official changeover date for all students to wear their full Winter Uniform is Monday May 10.

Welcome back to Term 2!
Yesterday, we commenced the Easter Season with a short prayer led by our Year 6 RE Team. They invited our school community to reflect on the Easter Season and identified several Easter Symbols.
Easter is a special time of our liturgical year where we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus and we are filled with joy and hope. This year each student is creating a butterfly which symbolises ‘new life’. These butterflies will be displayed throughout the school as a way to celebrate his resurrection.
ANZAC Day Commemoration & Prayer
We would like to extend a warm invitation to you to commemorate ANZAC Day with our community at 2:00 pm on Monday.

Welcome back to Term 2. Library lessons this term will mainly focus on research and note-taking skills and the use of non-fiction (information) texts, and how we can use them to learn about the world around us. We need to remember to bring our Library bags on our lesson days so we can borrow some of the wonderful books in our Library collection.
LESSONS THIS WEEK:
Friday 23/4 – Year 4
NEXT WEEK:
Monday 26/4 – Year 2
Tuesday 27/4 – Year 6
Wednesday 28/4 – Kinder
Thursday 29/4 – Year 1
We can also use Sora for digital and audio books. If you have not used this format yet the instructions are on our Oliver Library home page, the link for which is on the school website. There is also a link on our Library home page for the International Children’s Digital Library , where you will find books from around the world, and in many different languages http://en.childrenslibrary.org/
Our Oliver Library Home page also has links to many interesting sites and activities, so take a look and explore some of these experiences. When a book is finished, maybe retell and respond to your reading by creating some of these fun craft activities. Perhaps print out the following sheet and colour in a box when the activity is done.
Premiers' Reading Challenge: Remember to look at the PRC website to see if the books chosen by the students are on the correct list – if you have too many not on the list they may not be accepted. Years 3 - 6 must read 20 books; Kinder –Year 2 must read 30. https://products.schools.nsw.edu.au/prc/booklist/home.html
Daily Reading: Remember how important it is to read every day, while we are all at home we must make time to sit and read. Reading along with our children is even more invaluable! The genius Albert Einstein placed enormous value on the reading of fairy tales. He once said:
“If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be very intelligent, read them more fairy tales.”
Happy reading!
