Dear Parents of Mary Immaculate,
The Catholic Education Diocese of Wollongong (CEDoW) Social Media Policy was released in April this year. This policy was presented and discussed during the Term 2 Parents & Friends Meeting. As part of this policy the Diocese has released a Social Media Statement, which I have included below. Could you please take the time to read this statement. A link to the CEO Social Media Policy can be found on the School Website in the Policies and Procedures section.
For your information, the CEDoW Social Media Policy states that:
- permission must be sought from the Principal to establish a social media presence that is in any way associated with the School;
- any content posted on social media of other students must be done with the express consent of their parents or carers;
- any inappropriate use or content on social media that may negatively impact the school or CEO, will be brought to the attention of the Principal.

Staff Changes - I would like to inform our School Community that Elizabeth McGinnity will be retiring from her teaching position mid next year. Liz will be taking Long Service Leave until this time. I thank Liz for her commitment to Catholic Education spanning more than 40 years. Also, Moira Bryan will be retiring at the end of this year. Moira has devoted over 30 years of service to Catholic Education in Australia. Peter McFadden will also retire at the end of this year. Peter has worked at Mary Immaculate for 20 years. I take this opportunity to thank Liz, Moira and Peter for their commitment, work and support of Catholic Education and wish them all the best for the years ahead.
I congratulate Mrs Tamara Neilsen who has been successful in gaining an Acting Middle Leader 2 position for the 2020 school year.
We welcome new staff who will be joining our School and Community and look forward to working with Darren Orazi and Karen Voda in 2020. Further staffing appointments will be made over the coming weeks.
We are certainly blessed at Mary Immaculate to have passionate educators who are involved in contributing to the ongoing education of our students.

Parent Survey - Each year in order to gather data for our school’s Annual School Report we seek parent, staff and student input. This year all parents have the opportunity, via an anonymous online survey, to provide input into areas affecting the education of their children and the general functioning of the school. All feedback is greatly valued and will assist in contributing not only to the preparation of the Annual School Report but also to future directions and in planning for school improvement. Accessing the URL listed below can access the survey.

If you would prefer to complete this survey as a hard copy these will be available through the Office. I ask that surveys be completed by Friday 29 November.
Have a great week and let Christ be our way and life.
Mrs Lillian Del Giudice
Acting Principal

Digital Citizenship: For the next few weeks each class in Library will be looking at ways we can be responsible digital citizens. A digital citizen is not just an internet user, but is someone who chooses to act in a safe, respectful and responsible way online, using the web wisely. Technology today is so easily accessible – smart phones, iPads, tablets, laptops – and our children must be educated in safe use of such tools. There are links to the Australian Government Cybersafety site on our Oliver home page, oliver.dow.catholic.edu.au/miev. It is worth having a look, there are many useful tips, as well as games and activities for the children to do.
Scholastic Book Club: The brochures for the last campaign for 2019 have gone home, you may be able to do some Christmas shopping! Thank you for supporting this project, which earns commission for the school, enabling us to acquire resources, which can then be used by your children. The orders will close next Monday 25 November. Thank you
It is a very busy time of year but please try to take time to read with your children every day:
"If you want your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairy tales".
Albert Einstein
Happy reading!
Mrs Sue Bryant
Teacher Librarian
Last Friday 15 November two of our students Parker C Year 5 and Chaise A Year 6, received a Primary Red Sports medallion at the annual awards evening held at St Marys Star of the Sea College Wollongong.
To receive such an award, Chaise represented the Diocese of Wollongong and NSWCPS MacKillop in two sports (Rugby League and Athletics) and Parker represented the Diocese of Wollongong, NSWCPS MacKillop and NSWPSSA in Softball.
Both boys are outstanding junior sports stars with a big future. Congratulations Parker and Chaise, the community of Mary Immaculate is very proud of you.

Dear Mary Immaculate Families,
SHOWING SUPPORT FOR OUR FARMERS
A family in our School Community is supporting an initiative where they have organised a trip to Tamworth via Dubbo and the small town of Gollan to take some supplies to make Christmas a little easier for 200 struggling farming families. There are 2 key organisations being supported – one in Gollan and one in Tamworth - which operate “pantries” where those in need can access essential items. This project is supporting a small geographical area so the donations have a real and measurable impact on the families accessing the supplies.
As a way of supporting this initiative we ask if you would kindly donate items listed below. Any item will be gratefully accepted – including pantry items (bottled water, cereals, spreads, tea/coffee, canned and dried foods, alfoil etc), toiletries (toothpaste, shaving items), Christmas items (food treats, gifts) and gluten-free products.
If you would like to donate, please send item to the school office by Monday 25 November. As a School, we will place all items in a variety of baskets to present to the Coulson Family before they leave for their trip on Friday 29 November.
Yours sincerely
Mr Warren
On Sunday 8 December we celebrate the Feast Day of Mary Immaculate. I believe our School and Parish Name Day Feast to be a most significant event in the year. Due to the feast day falling on a Saturday, our Mary Immaculate School Community will be celebrating Mass on Friday 6 December at 10.45am. Our Parents and Friends Association will provide a sausage sizzle lunch after Mass. After lunch the children will be presenting Christmas songs. All parents and friends are most welcome to join in this significant school celebration. To assist with catering, parents are reminded to complete the RSVP, which was sent home last week. We are in DESPARATE need of some parental assistance on the day. If you are able to assist with the BBQ could you please complete the slip on the bottom of the Feast Day Note attached.
