Dear Parents,
Welcome back to the start of Term Four. I trust that you enjoyed the time spent with your children during the break. Once again this term promises to be very busy with plenty of events to look forward to - the Spring Fair, Swimming Program for Kindergarten, Years 2 and 4, the Year 5 overnight camp, our School Feast Day and end of year celebrations. The staff and I look forward to your continued involvement and support so that we can continue to strive together to make Mary Immaculate a place of joy where childhood and learning is celebrated.
The month of October is dedicated to the Rosary. The children and staff will set aside time over the next few weeks to pray this prayer and I ask that families within our community also take time to pray the Rosary and see it as a means to draw closer to Jesus and Mary.
Our Mary Immaculate Spring Fair is now only 3 days away. The committee and stall co-ordinators are busily making final preparations for the big day. Let us pray for fine weather and for a big crowd. Helpers are still required and it is definitely not too late to offer your assistance. Please contact the school office or one of the fair co-ordinators if you are able to assist. Set up on Friday afternoon, early Saturday morning and also the clean up on Saturday afternoon are huge tasks. Any assistance with set up and especially clean up will be greatly appreciated. A final reminder to parents to please send in any outstanding raffle tickets both sold and unsold to School.
Finally, on behalf of the Mary Immaculate School Community, I would like to wish all ex-students and families in our community who have children sitting the HSC, all the best for their exams.
Have a great week and let Christ be our way and life.

Acting Principal
CHILDREN NOT RETURNING TO MARY IMMACULATE IN 2020 - If your child will not be returning to Mary immaculate in 2020 could you please notify Mrs Pizarro in the office as soon as possible. This information will assist us with accommodating both new applications and students who are currently on our waiting list.
ACTING MIDDLE LEADER 2 - I would like to inform our school community that Mrs Kylie Boss has been appointed to the position of Acting Middle Leader 2 until the end of the year. I congratulate Mrs Boss on her appointment.
SCHOOL PROCESS FOR DEALING WITH COMPLAINTS - From time to time, parents may have an issue with something that occurs in the classroom or within the school community. Initially concerns should be addressed with the child’s class teacher directly, however, if not able to be adequately addressed at this point, it is recommended that the concern be addressed through a member of the school leadership team. Under no circumstance are parents to approach another child. In the case that a satisfactory outcome is unable to be achieved, a formal process is available for complaints handling. Our school has aligned its approach to complaints handling using the model proposed in the Diocesan Complaints Handling procedure. For details please consult the following website for the policy: http://www.dow.catholic.edu.au/

Extraordinary Mission Month - In response to Pope Francis’ invitation, the Extraordinary Missionary Month is to be an opportunity for reflection, prayer and support for the missionary efforts of individuals, communities and whole Church. As a school, we will be participating through almsgiving, prayer and learning activities. This will be occurring of the 1st November. Further details will be sent home over the next week.
Praying the Rosary - As a whole school, we will be praying the rosary throughout the remainder of October. This will occur after Lunch 2 for a period of approximately five minutes.
Why?
The month of October each year is dedicated to the Most Holy Rosary and ties in beautifully with the Extraordinary Month of Mission. If you have a chance this month why not pray the Rosary with your child/ren at home!

Congratulations to 5Green, the only class in Week 10 Term 3 to earn a gold star - well done!! Below is a reminder of Library days for each class:
- Monday – Year Two
- Tuesday – Year 6, Year 5
- Wednesday – Year 3, Year 1
- Thursday – Year 4, Kinder
Please remind your children to bring their library bags on the correct day – a good reminder is that for most classes Library day is the same as Sport so when they wear their sports uniform they need their Library bag!
Some weeks Library lessons need to be changed due to other events and activities for teachers and/or students. If this is the case, the classes are notified of the change where possible. However, if a student forgets to bring the library bag on the day of the lesson, he/she can bring it in the following day and borrow then. The Library bag is important for transporting the books to and from school because it helps protect them while in the school bag. We regularly have books which have to be disposed of because they get wet or damaged in transit.
We would again like to ask everyone to have a look at home for the extra Library bags we keep in the Library to lend to students who might have forgotten theirs – ALL of our Loan bags are still out at the moment, so there are none available. Please just see if there are any at your place. Thank you.
This term at Lunch 2 there will be a Chess Tournament for interested students in Years 3-6. The tournament begins this week, good luck to all our participants. Students in Kinder, Year 1 and Year 2 who are interested in playing Chess will have an opportunity later in the term to play with the senior students.
This term in Library lessons, each class will be exploring the wonders of Poetry – take a look at our Oliver home page and investigate some of the many links to interesting poetry sites - oliver.dow.catholic.edu.au/miev
Scholastic Book Club: Catalogues are going home this week for ordering online. Orders will close Monday 28 October. Thank you for your support with this program.
Don’t forget to try to read with your children for at least ten minutes a day.
