Colour Run
A great day was had by all! I very much appreciate the time and effort Ms Ahern took to co-ordinate and run this event. Thank you for coming too! I really appreciate the way most of you followed instructions about where to be to keep everything safe and fair for everyone. We are looking forward to the new sports equipment and the building of our ‘farm’ thanks to your very generous donations.
Ministerial Award
Congratulations to Nathaniel Chandra for being awarded a very special NSW Minister’s Award for Excellence in Student Achievement for community languages. This is a particularly high standard of recognition for Nathaniel and his efforts.
Public Speaking
We are very proud of Naea and Kara for representing our school at the finals of the Public Speaking competition held at Holy Family Ingleburn this week. The standard was extremely high and both students spoke with the high level of excellence we have come to expect of the student speakers at MIEV.
Crutches and Wheelchairs at School
From time to time your child could have an accident in or out of school that necessitates crutches or even a wheelchair. The school need to be notified of this before your child comes to school because the school needs to put significant WHS processes in place for both your child and the students around them. We can only accommodate this upon receipt of doctor’s directions, not the student’s preference because we often need to employ extra staff, which we are very happy to do, to keep everyone safe, but this can only be done with a doctor’s authority as I am sure you can understand, rather than student choice. Please don’t worry about remembering all this. Just call the office if you are ever in this position and we can explain it all. Just have in the back of your mind that it isn’t quite as easy as sending them to school with crutches these days.Sun Safety
Please ensure your child has their school hat every day. This school has a ‘No hat play in the shade’ policy but there are times when sport or other activities such as flag raising necessitate students being in the sun. They also love to run around on the grass and new running track and can’t if they don’t have hats. ‘No hat play in the shade’ seems to be sending the message they don’t need hats at school. Please help us be a Sun Safe school!
- Breakfast Club is for students who come to school without having had breakfast. Breakfast finishes and packs up on the first bell. Families please have brekkie time at home before you come to school.
- A small light chain only is permitted around a student’s neck with a crucifix or similar on it. Heavy chains or leather are a choking hazard and need to be replace with the breakable option.
- Parents are very welcome to come into the school grounds, hang up bags and send the students to the playgrounds where four teachers are on duty for passive playtime. Then please leave for your own day.
- Please make sure you read all communication from the school. I am still getting complaints such as parents not knowing they would be in the sun for the colour run when we clearly stated even on the maps that this would be the case and to bring hats and umbrellas.
- Student workbooks sent home on Friday need to be returned on Monday. Make sure your children tell you what they are proud of and what they are working on.
- Students must come to school every day unless they are sick. We are currently averaging 90% attendance and should be at 95% which still accounts for 10 days away per year.
- Students need to be at school on time – by 8.20am each day ready for 8.25am start of learning time. We are averaging 90% arriving on time (before Mrs Rolfe locks the gates at 8.30am so actually more are technically late) – that means 50+ students each day are late.
God Bless,
Michelle Rolfe
Principal
Please do not send Noodle Cups for the canteen to add hot water for your child or containers with food to be heated by the canteen.
The Canteen Staff, School Teachers or School Support Officers are not allowed to heat up food for your child's lunch or add hot water for Noodle Cups.

R U OK DAY - TOMORROW 12 SEPTEMBER 2024
The rise of mental health concerns among young people, including anxiety, depression and self-harm, is a pressing issue amplified by such factors as academic stress, social media, family dynamics and societal expectations. It is therefore crucial to prioritise early intervention, de-stigmatise mental health discussions and provide accessible and effective support to address these concerns and promote the well-being of young people.
This year R U OK? day falls on Thursday 12 September, an annual National Day of Action and a reminder that every day is the day to check in with your friends, family and colleagues.
This Thursday, we invite students to wear a splash of YELLOW- a hair ribbon, socks, or a t-shirt with their sports shorts (even if it is not their normal sports day) to show their support and act as a reminder.
Students will participate in a small activity within the classroom. Still, this day goes beyond the classroom through the initiating conversations about mental health, and through the creation of safe spaces where children feel valued, understood and supported. Parents can help by fostering an open dialogue, normalising emotions, identifying support systems, teaching active listening and addressing stigmas relating to mental health.
