Last Sunday’s Gospel…
Again we heard from the Gospel of John on Sunday. Jesus explained to the disciples that unless a seed actually dies, it does not germinate and produce life and indeed multiply by producing more seeds. It was the same with Jesus. His own death would result in much fruit being produced in terms of faith and followers. With around 2.4 billion Christians in the world today, two thousand years later, the largest religious group, we’d have to say He was right.

Cross Country Carnival
Please remember to join us on Friday if you can. Assembly will still be on because we will all beback in plenty of time from the carnival. We will be catching up on any missed St Eugene Badge awards.

Assembly will be held each fortnight on the basketball court. The front gate will open for you to come in at about 1.40pm – once most of the students have moved down to the court we will aim to start about 1.45pm.

LENTEN Mufti Day & Holy Week Reflection
DATE: Wednesday, 27 March 2024
Holy Week is a time for remembering and participating in the Passion of Jesus Christ.
Students are invited to wear something purple for our very special Holy Week Mufti Day along with a gold coin donation. This money will be sent to Caritas as part of our commitment to supporting Project Compassion and those in need.
During Holy Week this year our students will be participating in the Stations of the Cross. All students will engage in a spiritual reflection where they pause to reflect on Christ’s passion, death and resurrection.

Cross Country Week 8
Next Friday the 22 of March students from Kindergarten to Year 6 will be participating in the 2024 Cross Country carnival at Eschol Park Soccer Fields. Parents are to drop students to school as per the normal school starting time of 8.25am. The students will walk in grade groups with their classroom teachers down to and from Eschol Park Soccer Fields to compete in their race using the timetable below.
Students in Kindergarten and Year 1 will take part in a race covering approximately 800m to 1km. Students in Year 2 to 6 will participate in the 2km race. They will be grouped by gender and age, according to their age as of this year. The top three finishers in each race will have the honour of representing our school at the Diocesean Cross Country Championship in Nowra, scheduled for Tuesday 7 May.
Students are to wear full sport uniforms, including their hat and sneakers. Students are able to wear a shirt of their House Colour. Pack student's bags as per a normal school day. Please ensure your child has ample amounts of water, sunscreen and an asthma puffer (if necessary).
If you would like to volunteer as a marshall for the event please nominate on your Compass alert or contact Ms Beckman.
Sports Gala Day Preferences
Soon a Compass alert will be sent to parents to gather preferences regarding student participation in the upcoming Gala Days for 2024. Your input will help us plan accordingly, although please understand that due to limited capacity, we may not be able to accommodate all first preferences. This year Mary Immaculate will be participating in the Netball, Soccer, Basketball and Cricket (Year 5 and 6) Gala Days.
Before submitting your child's preferences, please take note of the following:

Transport Responsibility: Students are responsible for arranging their transportation to and from the Gala Days.

Non-Competitive Nature: Gala Days are non-competitive events designed to foster enjoyment and participation in sports. They offer a unique opportunity for students to engage in sports they might not typically encounter, all the while having a blast with their friends.

Behavioural Consideration: It's essential to highlight that student behaviour will play a role in team selection. In instances of poor behaviour, students may be exempt from participating in Gala Days.

Parental Involvement: We may need parental volunteers to assist with coaching on the day of the event. As the date approaches, we may reach out for your support in this regard.

The NSW Premier's Reading Challenge is now open and Mary Immaculate is excited to be participating!
What is the NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge?
The PRC is a statewide challenge that encourages students to develop a love of reading and enables them to experience quality literature. It is not a competition, but a challenge to encourage each student to read, to read more, and to read more widely.
All students who complete the Challenge and have their reading record validated by the school’s PRC coordinator, Mrs Sidorenko, will receive a certificate signed by the Premier of NSW.
How many books do students need to read?
Students in Kindergarten to Year 2 are challenged to read or experience 30 books. 20 of these books must be from the relevant Challenge booklists, and up to 10 books can be Personal Choice books. Books can be read with a parent or carer.
Students in Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 20 books independently. At least 10 of these books must be from the relevant Challenge booklists, and up to 10 books can be Personal Choice books.
If a book is from an approved PRC series, students can enter up to 5 books as Challenge books, and can read up to 10 other books from the same series as Personal Choice books. More information on the rules of the Challenge can be found ON the PRC website.
Books must be added to a student’s online reading record by a parent or carer by Friday 23 August 2024 in order for their reading record to be validated and receive a certificate.
How do students log their reading?
Students can access the PRC’s Student Experience site using their DoE username and password, or can log into the site via the Student Portal. Once Mrs Sidorenko registers a student, a note will be sent home with student details to access the site and log reading.
How can students find books on the NSW PRC challenge lists?
Many of the books that are on the PRC list can be found in our school library and borrowed by students completing the Premier’s Reading Challenge. The local public library is another great resource and many of the PRC books can be found there as well. Visit the PRC website for a complete list of books.
