From the Principal & Assistant Principal
In this week's Gospel Matthew 16:24–26, Jesus was ready and willing to suffer and die for the salvation of the world. He knew that by dying He would transform death itself into the very means of eternal salvation. He knew that laying down His life in this way was the greatest act of love He could offer; therefore, Jesus didn’t hesitate at all. He was ready and willing to give His human life so that we could live.
We are challenged by Jesus when he calls us to “Take up your cross and follow Me.” This is Jesus’ most sacred instruction to us all on how we should live and how we will share in His gift of eternal life. What cross in your life are you fearful of? What act of sacrifice do you avoid? True love hurts in the sense that it is always selfless. We must die to ourselves. Reflect upon any way that you fail to do this, and allow Jesus’ rebuke of Peter to also rebuke you so that you will be freed from the fear of this holy sacrificial love that will unite you to our Lord.
In improving the playground experience, students are now able to access all areas of the school playground at lunch breaks, as well as access calm and quiet spaces at Social / Coding Club and the library.
In leading the school, we continue to listen to the needs of the Mary Immaculate School Community in providing a safe and life-giving experience for all students. We thank parents, value the partnership we share and appreciate your understanding in creating positive change where required, such as ensuring we have processes to ensure all students travel to and from school safely. In particular, we appreciate your understanding of the small changes we made with regard to parents making their way out on the first bell, and waiting until the second bell to enter the grounds. The students feel much safer not having to move through the school at the same time you are all understandably wanting to get in and out quickly.
Staff are currently engaged in a long-term personal and professional growth program - Educating with a Mission Lens, in which we continue to reflect on the importance of our community in understanding our collective mission, to continue and live the Jesus story. Staff will continue to explore the important missionary work we are called to do on our staff spirituality day this Friday (pupil free day).
We - parents, staff and students, all have a unique and important role to play in this mission, and how we develop this within ourselves and our young people.

On R U Ok day (Thursday 14 September) there will be a mufti day where students and staff will be asked to wear as much yellow as possible or accessorise with yellow and bring in a gold coin donation to support kindness and the R U OK Message within our school. There will also be a lunch time special where students can purchase yellow lolly bags for $1 or yellow lollipops for $2 as well as coloured handballs for $2 (to promote playing together).

Christmas Art Competition 2023
The Christmas Story Art Exhibition and Competition is an initiative of the Catholic Education Offices in Wollongong and Sydney, designed to celebrate and explore children’s creative and artistic ability in illustrating the Christmas story.
This exhibition and competition provides the opportunity for Years 5 and 6 students to share with the wider community a greater awareness of the role of the arts in Religious Education. Children can develop deeper appreciation for their talents and recognise the value of the arts in expressing understandings of the Catholic faith.
We are extremely proud of the effort our students have put into creating an artwork that reflects their understanding of the Advent story. The following students are our finalists for the Christmas Art. Their work will be sent in to the Wollongong Education Office as part of the competition.
