KINDERGARTEN 2024 ENROLLING NOW!!!
Dear Parents and Carers,
Yesterday I had the privilege of attending the Caritas Launch of Project Compassion for the 2023 Lenten season at St Columbkille’s Corrimal with Sr Colleen and our School Leaders Hannah and Noah. The theme of the 2023 campaign is ‘For all future generations.’ During the launch stories were shared of how Caritas supports the work of individuals and groups who are striving to make lasting change within their communities around the world. On our way back to school we brainstormed ways that we could bring this theme to life within our school community. We look forward to supporting the initiatives of the Year 6 Mission Teams during the season of Lent.
Wishing each of you the companionship of Christ in the Lenten journey ahead.

Principal
Thank you to the volunteers who assisted with the cooking of pancakes for the P&F Shrove Tuesday Pancake Day. These are the moments of difference in the normal school routine that remain in the memory of children for years to come. Thank you to all the parents and friends that made this possible.
FROM THE PARENT HANDBOOK
What do I do if I have a concern regarding a student/s who is not my child?
At times parents may become concerned about the behaviour of other students and, to resolve the situation, approach the student concerned. However, under no circumstances are parents to approach other students when trying to resolve an issue. Always seek assistance from the school. Incidents such as this can very quickly lead to reportable Child Protection matters that have to be investigated and reported.
It is also good practice to seek assistance from the school when you have a concern rather than approaching other parents about school related matters.
Always think about what you would do, or how you would feel, if another parent approached your child or confronted you about a matter where you were not fully informed of the details.
PB4L – Playground Games
As mentioned in last week’s newsletter, a variety of games have been introduced in both the Infants and Primary Playgrounds. The activities that students can participate in are rotated daily to ensure that all students have an opportunity to play in each area.
I have included the rules and expectations for Playground Boxes for Infants students and Basketball for Primary students, for you to discuss with your children.
The PB4L focus for the next two weeks for all students is Lining up at the end of Lunch 1 and Lunch 2 and moving to class.
At the end of lunch times, Primary students walk to the COLA and Infants students walk to the concrete area in front of the Kindergarten / Year 1 building. All students line up on the bell awaiting the ‘Freeze and Five instruction’ from the teacher on duty. They sit or stand quietly listening to teacher instructions. They then move to class in their lines quietly.
We also have a focus on respectful, responsible and safe behaviour at the Canteen.
This includes -
- Remembering to use manners.
- Lining up in 2 lines.
- Not sharing money or asking others to buy food.
- Only going to the Canteen if you have money.

Last week, we officially inducted our new school leaders for 2023. We would like to congratulate these students and wish them well in their leadership roles this year.
JUNIOR CHOIR ENRICHMENT AT MARY IMMACULATE
This year as part of our whole school enrichment program we have introduced a Junior Choir in addition to our wonderful Senior Choir who were part of the 2022 Celebration Sing Out. Many of you may remember hearing the Senior Choir sing at some assemblies and at Grandparents Day last year. Our Junior Choir is for students in Grades 1 and 2 (Kindergarten students will have an opportunity to join the Junior Choir once they have settled into school) and our Senior Choir is for students in Grades 3 - 6.
We have had an overwhelming response to BOTH choirs with so many eager children wanting to come along on a Friday at lunchtime to sing. The commitment and dedication they have already shown in the few weeks we have been at school this year is amazing and we can’t wait to watch both choirs learn and grow together as they work towards performing at some assemblies and special events throughout the year. Any information about choir performances will be communicated to parents before the time.
Thank you for embracing this exciting part of our school enrichment and we look forward to sharing with you the beautiful sound of our Mary Immaculate children’s voices in the coming months.
