Sacred Heart Mass: Friday 24th June 2022 @ 10.15 am
This Friday, it will be our Feast of the Sacred Heart Mass. It is with great excitement that we will be presenting one of the students in our school with our very special Sacred Heart Award.
This is awarded to a student who has displayed loving, caring and empathetic qualities towards others and who opens their heart to the needs of others.
Watch this space to see who this special person is….
Over the past four weeks, we have been preparing some of our students in Year 4 to receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion for the first time. It was a great privilege for the teachers to have the opportunity to support families during these classes and be part of their ongoing faith journey.
On the weekend, our students participated in the special mass to receive the Eucharist. Upon reflection of the weekend the students of Year 4 shared:
‘..I like how Father explained how the people shared the food with others….’ Ivory
‘... after I received communion, I felt that I was in the presence of God…’ Logan
‘... I was nervous at first, but after I received communion - no words could describe how it felt…’ Kara
It was an incredibly proud moment watching the children prc
Dear Parents / Caregivers and families,
On Sunday we celebrated one of the greatest mysteries of our Christian faith, the Holy Trinity.
This celebration reminds us that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are working together. They are never separated, though, each one of them is a distinct divine person. No amount of philosophical debate or scientific research can fully explain the Holy Trinity. This is a mystery and can best be appreciated only with the “eyes of faith.” We have many lessons to learn from the Holy Trinity and what we are really celebrating is a model of unity. The most important lesson is that we can live and work together as one family, the family of God. This is because we each bear the same image of God and despite our personalities and differences, unity is possible.
Through our baptism we are invited to live fully as the members of the family of God. As the children of God we can only get to know God by living with God. God makes this living together possible and the place in which we learn what it means, is the family he has established in human history, the community we call the Church. This coming weekend the Mary Immaculate Parish family will celebrate the next stage of initiation for many young members, through the first reception of the sacrament of Eucharist. We are grateful to the parish sacramental team and the school staff who have so generously contributed to support the parents of the candidates to fulfil their role as the first faith educators. As a school community we are certainly fortunate to be able to celebrate the great gift of the Eucharist at our school and grade masses and this would not be possible without the ongoing generosity of our priests Father Slawek and Father Casmir.
Each time we gather around the table of the Lord, we pray in thanksgiving for all the members of our faith family, throughout history who have gone before us. They made it possible for us to be here today, and their lives inspire us to continue their work tomorrow conscious that as a family of faith we are forever bound together in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Enjoy the week ahead.

KINDERGARTEN REPORTS
Please be advised that students in Kindergarten do not receive a formal Semester 1 report. Instead, all Kindergarten parents are encouraged to make an appointment to attend the Parent / Teacher Conference. This is a valuable opportunity to discuss and celebrate with the class teacher the progress your child has made during their first semester at school.
Daily attendance information is mandated by the government and must be updated daily. To ensure your child’s attendance information is accurate it is important that parents understand and follow the attendance processes below:
- Online rolls are marked by the teachers every day, immediately after the 8.25 am bell.
- If a child is not present when the roll is marked, they are entered as ABSENT.
- Late arrivals (after the 8.25am bell) and early departures, MUST BE signed in or out at the front office.
- The office staff will amend all late arrivals and early departure attendance online.
Two very good reasons why it is important to follow these processes for your child include.
- Accurate recording of your child’s attendance data.
- In case of emergency evacuation, we need to know all children present in class at all times.
Thank you in advance for ensuring your child is present prior to the 8.25am bell each morning so learning opportunities can be optimised.

Congratulations again to those students who have returned their books – well done, keep it up!!! We just need to remember to bring our Library bags in and return our overdue books – there are still 315 books overdue! If the students remember to bring in their Library Bags and books and it is not their Library day, they can come to the Library at Lunch 2 on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday to return and borrow.
A reminder of Library days:
Thursday - Year 3
Friday – Year 2
NEXT WEEK
Tuesday – Year 4
Wednesday – Year 1
Thursday – Kindergarten
Damaged Books
Another reminder - if a book is damaged or torn while at home, please do not attempt to repair it. While we appreciate your efforts, we have the correct materials at school and it is easier for us, and better for the book, if we repair it here. Using sticky tape to attach torn or loose pages is not ideal. Please just ask your child to let us know, and we can fix it. The students do not get into trouble if a book is accidentally damaged, we would rather know about it so we can do something about it! If a book is damaged beyond repair, then we do ask that it either be paid for or replaced by something similar. Please try to keep the books away from younger siblings – we have had a number of books lately which have had to be thrown out because they have been scribbled in and torn, or water-damaged. Thank you for your support in this matter.
Premiers' Reading Challenge
Keep up the good work, we have quite a few students now who have already completed the challenge, and many more well under way who have logged in and registered their books read so far. Remember if you are having difficulties logging in to register the books we can help at lunchtime. The Library is open each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at Lunch 2. The PRC website has the list of books as well as the login: https://products.schools.nsw.edu.au/prc/booklist/home.html
You can also go to our Oliver home page at oliver.dow.catholic.edu.au/miev and click on the link to take you to the website. Remember Kindergarten – Year 2 must read 30 books, and Years 3 - 6 must read 20, with only 5 Personal Choice books allowed.

MARY IMMACULATE'S MINI VINNIES MINI SLEEPOUT
On any given night in Australia 1 in 200 people are experiencing homelessness. This figure includes a staggering number of children and young people:
- More than 17,000 Australian children under the age of 12 have no permanent home
- 60% of the homeless population is under the age of 35 and in the prime of their life
- Children face an 18% higher risk of poverty compared to other age groups
So how can we support these people and put our faith in action?
We need to experience and feel what these people do, therefore we will be hosting a Mini Sleepout.
What is A Vinnies School Sleepout?
The Vinnies School Sleepout allows students and school communities to get a glimpse of the realities of homelessness on a personal level by ‘sleeping rough’ for one afternoon. The Sleepout encourages students and teachers to gain a deeper understanding of homelessness, raise awareness of the realities faced by people experiencing homelessness and raise funds to support Vinnies homeless services in the local community.
Mary Immaculate will host a Mini Vinnies Mini Sleepout on 12 August (Term 3 Week 4) 3pm - 6pm for interested Year 5 and Year 6 students.
Interested students will be asked to sign up via compass in the coming weeks and then organise sponsorship for themselves prior to the afternoon.
What can your donations do?
- $15 pays for a day’s meals for a family struggling to put food on the table.
- $30 provides someone a bed for the night.
- $50 provides school supplies and excursion fees for a child experiencing disadvantage.
- $80 pays for a course in life skills such as cooking, preparing for job interviews or basic computer skills at TAFE.
Further information and details to be provided at a later date.
