Dear Parents / Caregivers and families,
As we prepare to celebrate Mothers' Day, we are reminded of the important role that our mothers have in our lives. Our students had the opportunity to purchase gifts at our P&F Mothers’ Day Stall today. We are grateful for the time so generously given by those who helped to purchase, prepare, and sell the gifts. It was wonderful to see the excitement on the faces of the students as they searched for the perfect gift for their mum.
The special love that mothers’ give is always appreciated, but not always acknowledged.
As members of the larger universal Catholic family the litany for Mothers below helps us to celebrate the biblical mothers who have gone before us.
Eve our first mother – thank you for stepping out and being the first to understand the complexities of life.
Sarah, Hannah and Elizabeth – thank you for your patience and courage in waiting for a miracle. May all people longing for children be strengthened by your stories and comforted in their pain.
Hagar – thank you for your resolve in the face of exile. May all mothers who are forced to flee or are forgotten, be given hope in you.
Rebecca – thank you for your flexibility. Let us remember all mothers who have had to raise their children in a different country or far from their relatives and who feel isolated.
Rachel – you carried the burden of grief and wept for your children. Hold the hands of all those mothers who weep for their children – children who have gone missing, who have died or are lost to them in other ways.
Jochebed – you used wisdom and insight to protect your children. Give to all mothers this wisdom and insight in the bringing up of their children, especially in vulnerable times.
Naomi and Ruth – you showed that love can conquer all trials. Help all mothers to love constantly when life seems impossible and despair weighs hard upon their souls.
Mary –whose ‘yes’ to God changed our world forever. Thank you for sheltering the Holy One all those years ago, for your faithful love and tender care of God’s most precious Son. May we never forget that in your giving is our greatest receiving – of the gift of life wrapped in a manger and in a tomb.
May we know the true cost of relationship by holding our faith in Christ deep within our hearts as you once held him deep within your womb.
On behalf of the students and staff, I would like to wish all the mothers, grandmothers and mother figures within the Mary Immaculate school and parish community a very happy Mothers’ Day.
Happy Mothers’ Day, wishing you a special day filled with peace and much joy!

What do I do if I have a concern regarding a student/s who is not my child?
At times, parents become concerned about the behaviour of other students and, in an effort to resolve the situation, approach the student concerned. However, under no circumstances are parents to approach other students when trying to resolve an issue. Always seek assistance from the school. Incidents such as this can very quickly lead to reportable Child Protection matters that have to be investigated and reported.
It is also good practice to seek assistance directly from school staff when you have a concern rather than approaching, calling, or texting other parents about school related matters.
Always think about how you would feel if another parent approached your child or spoke about your child to other parents.

As a Marian school, named after Mary Immaculate, we hold a special devotion to Mary and pray to her particularly through the month of May by praying the Rosary or the Hail Mary. We are grateful to the members of the Year 6 Faith Team who will be supporting the praying of the Rosary in Kindergarten - Year 2. The students have worked hard to prepare themselves and to develop resources to assist the students to understand how the Rosary beads are used during prayer and to review the
prayers included when praying The Rosary.
Celebrating Laudato Si' Week at Mary Immaculate
(9 - 13 May 2022)
Laudato Si' Week is a weeklong event marking the seventh anniversary of Pope Francis' landmark encyclical on creation care. It is a time to listen and respond together to the cry of creation, rejoice in the progress we have made in bringing Laudato Si' to life, and intensify our efforts through the Laudato Si' Action Platform. To celebrate this special event we will be having a Gold Coin Mufti Day on Monday 9 May. Due to the Laudato Si Mufti Day the new official date for changeover to the Winter Uniform is now Tuesday 10 May.
Please support the environmental initiatives in our school through a gold coin donation.

Congratulations to all the students who are remembering to bring their Library bags for their lessons – this means that they are able to borrow some of the wonderful books we have in the Library. Please encourage your children to read the books they borrow each week, so that they are able to share what they have read when they come to Library. It is such a shame when they come back and the books have stayed in the Library Bag for the week! Remember, practice makes perfect!!
Tomorrow is Library for Year 3. Friday will be Year 2.
Next week:
Tuesday – Year 4
Wednesday – Year 1
Thursday – Kindergarten
Premiers' Reading Challenge
Remember to look at the PRC website to make sure the books chosen by the students are on the correct list – if you have too many not on the list they will not be accepted. Years 3 - 6 must read at least 15 from the lists and may read up to 5 personal choice books; Kindergarten – Year 2 must read 25 from the lists and may also read 5 personal choice. Have a look at the Premiers Reading Challenge website:
https://products.schools.nsw.edu.au/prc/booklist/home.html
Our Oliver Library catalogue will let you know what books from the lists are available in our Library. Go to oliver.dow.catholic.edu.au/miev and type ‘premier’ in the search box. Then select the level required and the search results will indicate available titles.
Scholastic Book Club
Catalogues for the current issue are going home this week. Orders will close next Friday 13 May! Remember all ordering is done online through LOOP – check the back of the brochure for details. The school receives reward points for all items sold, which enables us to buy more books for the Library, so we thank you for your support.
Lunchtime Library
This week we are happy to announce that we are able to re-introduce our Lunchtime Library activities. Students are able to come to the Library at Lunch 2 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday to spend some quiet time reading, drawing, playing Chess, or playing some of the Board games available. Any student who misses their borrowing day is also welcome to bring their Library bag at Lunch 2 to return the books they have finished and choose some new books.
Daily Reading
Remember how important it is to read every day, please encourage your children to read for at least ten minutes a day. Reading along with them is even more invaluable!
“No matter how busy you think you are, you must find time for READING – or surrender yourself to self-chosen ignorance.”

Happy reading!

WONDER BREAD RECYCLING PROGRAMME
Just a quick reminder that Mary Immaculate has signed up for the Wonder Bread Bag Recycling Programme! This program allows us to collect and recycle bread bags and in return we receive reward points to spend on new sporting equipment for our school.
HERE IS HOW YOU CAN HELP:
Bring in any EMPTY bread bags (including any brand bread, flat bread, buns etc) so we can help the environment and earn new sports equipment for the school. PLEASE make sure the bread bags are empty otherwise there will be some recycling issues.
Thank you for your support of this wonderful, environmentally friendly program!
Sincerely yours,
Year 6 Ecology team and Mrs Alford
