LIBRARY NEWS

Library_News.jpg

Congratulations to 1 Green, 2 Gold and 2 Green for earning a gold star last week – well done! Sadly we still have quite a number of outstanding loans from the end of last term, but we look forward to getting them all back as soon as possible. Well done to all the students who returned their books and remembered their Library bags.

Next week in Library Year 3 will be looking at limericks, which are humorous 5-line poems with a specific rhyming pattern, and later in the term they will look at onomatopoeia, which is a fun technique poets use to make their poems more interesting! Onomatopoeia is the use of ‘sound’ words like ‘Crash, splash, splish, hush, buzz. Year 4 are learning about Diamantes and ballads. Have a look at our Oliver Home page and click on some of the links: oliver.dow.catholic.edu.au/miev

We also encourage the students to have a look on the bookshelves at home to see what hidden treasures may be there – many homes will have some poetry books tucked away I’m sure.

Chess Tournament

Our Chess Tournament has started, 24 students from Years 3-6 participating. Good luck to those students with their matches

Remember to encourage your children to read every day, even for just ten minutes, and if possible, read with them. That valuable time spent with them will be what they remember!

the more things you will know.

The more that you learn,

the more places you'll go."

Happy reading!
