STUDENTS RETURNING TO SCHOOL WITH AN INJURY
If your child has suffered a significant injury or illness at school or at home, they will not be permitted to return to school until the school has received verification that the student has been evaluated by a licensed health care provider. The written clearance and release from the licensed health care provider with precautions, recommendations, restrictions, and duration can be in the form of:
- Doctors Clearance Certificate to the School with temporary precautions / recommendations / restrictions eg. sport, outdoor play, toileting, classroom assistance;
- The only licensed health care providers that can provide the signed verification documentation are as follows:
- General Practitioner;
- Specialist;
- Hospital.
The injuries or illness that requires a written clearance and temporary precautions / recommendations / restrictions are:
- Bone fracture/broken requiring crutches, scooter, wheel chair, boot, splint, cast or sling;
- Severe joint sprain requiring crutches, scooter, wheel chair, boot, splint, cast or sling;
- Muscle strain requiring crutches, scooter, wheel chair, boot, splint, cast or sling;
- Recent Surgery;
- Seizure / Heat exhaustion and / or heat stroke;
- Head injury / Concussion – please see the attached Return to Learn Flyer below;
Please do not send your child to school with aids such as crutches, scooter, wheel chair, boot, splint, cast or sling if you have not sought professional advice from a licensed health care provider. As stated above if children arrive at school with any of these aids they require a Doctors Clearance Certificate with temporary precautions / recommendations / restrictions included on the Doctors Clearance Certificate.
If a child arrives at school with any of the aids mentioned above and / or has suffered any of the above injuries / illnesses and they do not have a Doctors Certificate with temporary precautions / recommendations / restrictions they will not be allowed to stay at school, attend excursions, outdoor play or sport, they will be sent home.
