RE NEWS

 Shrove Tuesday

Rec_5.png

Next Tuesday, 4 March 2025 is Shrove Tuesday or Pancake Day. It is the day before Ash Wednesday and the Season of Lent.

This year our parent community will be providing pancakes for our entire school. We are extremely appreciative of their support.

Each student across the school will receive several small pikelets to remember the traditional practice of ‘using up foods that couldn’t be eaten during Lent including eggs, milk and fat’ - in other words, pancake ingredients!

Students are being asked to bring in a Gold Coin Donation to support the Project Compassion initiative run by the Mini Vinnies team.

Important Dates:                 Ash Wednesday

Students will be attending a whole school liturgy on Wednesday 5 March 2025 for Ash Wednesday.

On this day, your child will have their forehead marked with ashes in the shape of a cross. Please support students to understand that this ash marks them as a child of God. It reminds us that we are sorry for the times we have done wrong and ready to start fresh with Jesus’ help.

The launch of this year’s Project Compassion will coincide with the commencement of our Lenten Season. This year the theme is ‘Unite Against Poverty’.

The Mini Vinnies Team have organised a donation box to be sent home with your child on this day. You are asked to please participate in this fundraising initiative through almsgiving during this year as Pilgrims of Hope.

Last year we generously donated around $4000.00. Please remember that your donations make a lasting difference for those in need.

Reconciliation:

Grades 4 to 6 will be participating in the 2nd Rite of Reconciliation on Wednesday 12 March 2025 in the Church.

During the Lenten Season, this rite, the Sacrament of Penance, celebrates our call to turn back to God after we repent and receive God’s forgiving love and mercy.

Harmony Day Celebrations:

Rec_3.png

This year our school will be celebrating Harmony Day on Friday 4 April 2025. This special day is all about inclusion, respect, and celebrating our diverse community.

As part of our Harmony Day celebrations, we are inviting students to share their many gifts and talents with the extended Mary Immaculate Community. If your child / family would like to share a song, poem, dance or cultural performance at assembly please fill in this google form.

As a key part of this celebration, students are encouraged to wear orange or traditional cultural attire to celebrate this day.

Join us as we showcase performances and reflections from the many cultural backgrounds we are lucky enough to share here at Mary Immaculate Eagle Vale. We will confirm the early start time with you once we know how many performances we will be seeing.
