Last Sunday’s Gospel…

Last Sunday was Pentecost Sunday and marks the end of the season of Easter. Jesus had left the Apostles by ascending into heaven and they were together, along with Mary, Jesus’s mother, understandably quite scared about what would happen next and what they were supposed to do. In receiving the Holy Spirit, the Apostles and Our Lady were given the gifts they needed to be able to go out into the world, no longer afraid, to spread the Good News about Jesus.

Mini Vinnies

I had a number of students ask me about doing something to raise money for people who needed it.

They were very keen and full of ideas. So we have decided to start a Mini Vinnies Group at school for our Year 5 and 6 students and possibly Year 4. The idea is to act like a St Vincent de Paul group, raising money and awareness for those less fortunate in our community. They will work with various staff and Ms Boehm, our REC, to create imaginative and exciting ways to educate us all about the hardship of others. So keep watch and we’ll keep you up to date with what they do. I am very pleased this has come from the students rather than being something we have asked them to do!

Wellbeing Grant

We received some funds from the government to boost wellbeing with our students. After much research, we decided to explore wellbeing through the Arts. Following on from an activity in which the staff participated on the Spirituality Day, watercolour paints and brushes have been purchased – one set per student, so they can explore this medium and create patterns and simple images. They might even take these outside on a beautiful day. The idea is to give single minded attention to a single task, find satisfaction in creating the image through the simple actions, and create something they find pleasing to the eye as well. Kits of drawing pencils will be used in a similar way.

Xylophones and drums will provide a similar experience through music. Some of this will take place during art and music but short experiences will also take place for their own benefit. The timing of the TTFM survey will provide some insight into how the students find this as will other surveys and interviews. No doubt the students will tell you what they think too so please share those insights with us. Hopefully you will find a lift in their wellbeing at home too.

Please remember to get your enrolment forms in if you haven’t already. We have over 100 applications for only 90 places. Once offers are made and accepted and we are full, we won’t be able to take more students even siblings.
