LIBRARY NEWS

Congratulations to the only class to earn a gold star last week – well done Kindergarten Gold! Many other classes did well with their borrowing too, a great effort. There are lots of lovely new books ready to borrow, we need to remember our Library bags so we can take advantage of them! We do encourage everyone to read during the holidays, it’s a great time to catch up on our reading. Don’t forget the local library, the staff at Eagle Vale Library are always willing to help you find what you are after.
When we return to school next term, the following classes will have Library in Week One:
Monday – Year 4
Tuesday – Year 6
Wednesday – Year 1
Thursday - Kinder
One of the popular sections of the Library is the Graphic Novel genre. Graphic novels are what we might have identified as ‘comics’. Graphic novels are books written and illustrated in the style of a comic book. They powerfully attract and motivate kids to read and are flexible enough that often the same titles can be equally appealing to both reluctant and advanced readers. Providing young people of all abilities with diverse reading materials, including graphic novels, can help them become lifelong readers. For more information on the value of graphic novels, and to see some of the titles the students enjoy, check the following site:

Next term in the Library we hope to have some different lunchtime Library activities. Tuesdays will continue to be for games and drawing. On Wednesdays we will be having Stamp Club, for those students who are interested in learning the ins and outs of maintaining a Stamp Collection; and Thursdays we will be concentrating on our Chess Club, with a competition commencing in Week 2 for the Primary students. Students in Years 3 - 6 are invited to register their interest in participating in our Annual Chess Tournaments which will be held on Thursdays at lunch time.
They can come to the Library at Lunch 2 in Week 1 to put their names ont he list.
Enjoy the break, take time to read and relax.
